Blizzards and Bikinis

Monday is a perfect day for a snow day. I wish I would have known before 7:30 this morning but none-the-less... I don't have to suffer through a case of the "mondays". Skyler and Isaac are at school and since Josie was bundled up for daycare already, Steve dropped her off. I have a quiet day all to myself. Yay!!! I worked out, made carob chip cookies for the dogs and I am watching HGTV. Steve didn't make the bed this morning so it is almost like he's trying to make me take a nap.

Yesterday Josie decided after church that she was going to wear her bikini top with leggings. At first I said "no" but then reconsidered... what does it matter, we aren't going anywhere! So while the snow was falling outside, Josie was in her bikini. The big girl bed is going well. She does get up on her own in the morning now. She continues to come and tell on Isaac for various things, sometimes made up. She will point to a bruise on her leg and say, "Isaac hurt me". Isaac does annoy her. Last night he was so bored because Skyler wasn't home and he would hide Josie's baby doll. She would pick up a blanket to get the baby bed ready and turn around to pick the baby up and Isaac will have shoved it under the couch. Meanwhile, Steve and Skyler are in Sioux Falls at Skyler's basketball game. The games seem to get scheduled late on Sunday night so the whole family can't go.

Over the weekend Steve and I got to go on a double date with our friends Matt and Melissa. We went to Texas Roadhouse and then bowling. I was craving pie so we went to Perkins after that and didn't get home until after midnight. We are so old. LOL!

Nothing really exciting going on! Have a great week everyone!

2010!

Happy New Year! We have added about 6 more inches of snow since this picture was taken. Now that the street, sidewalk, and drive way is scooped, we have no where to put more snow! We had a 30 degree temperature raise today from yesterday. I believe we hit 20. The boys were probably wearing shorts.

Last night Josie spent the first night in her "big girl" bed. She had been sleeping on the mattress on the floor but now that she is up on the bed, she's not so sure about it! She's been having fun the last few days staying at home with Mom, Skyler and Isaac since Thursday and Friday were snow days! She does a good job of staying in bed and waiting for someone to get her up in the morning. One day she did get up herself and started playing with her babies downstairs. When I woke up she said, "I did it myself."
We spent January 2 and 3 in Omaha at Brian and Kate's house. We had a small Christmas celebration since we couldn't make it the week before. Isaac loves his new hat and Skyler is just thrilled as usual. Nice red eye, editing. Oops.

Josie posed for this picture. She was being quite the ham!

Looking forward to a full week of school. Skyler had his first Y ball game today and will get to experience high school exams for the first time this week. Isaac has basketball practice. Steve has his Power program. My parents are in Honolulu for the day and then off to Samoa for 2.5 weeks. Send the warm weather this way please!!!

Plans didn't exactly go as planned for Christmas. We were supposed to go visit Brian and Kate in Omaha for four days but we couldn't beat the storm because Skyler had to work on Christmas Eve. He hasn't quite figured out the asking for days off when needed. He already bailed on the day he went to the Michigan/Kansas basketball game so we stayed and waited. We ended up staying a couple of nights at my parents' house. It was quite the surprise when we finally made it home and saw all the snow. Thank goodness for a kind neighbor and his snow blower.

We are going to try to get to Omaha this weekend yet. Better late than never!

Christmas Time is here

I just love this time of year.  Our house has the best outdoor lights on the block. (in my opinion) Thanks to Skyler and Isaac taking I don't know how many strands of green, white, and clear C9's out of the solid strands and rearranging the bulbs.  Yes, they unscrewed many bulbs to make new strands in the pattern of green, red and clear, green, red and clear.  It kept them busy this summer.  Steve got to buy a new ladder out of the deal which has come in quite handy when we keep blowing fuses and he has to climb up on our second story roof to figure out which strand needs a new fuse.

The gifts are all wrapped under the tree and Josie has tried to help herself.  After a few scoldings she now reminds me "No open the Christmas presents".  (over and over and over again) Kind of like Wednesday night meals at church where there seems to only be forks.  She will say every 2 minutes, "No spoons, only forks", because she wants a spoon.  Finally I went to the kitchen to get her a spoon.  It only took me 3 weeks to figure out how to get her to stop.

The boys are out this Friday for two weeks.  I have a day and a half next week yet.  I can't wait!!

Skyler getting ready for work. Note the Halloween decor in the window. That's what it looked like from outside at night. We were all decorated for Halloween but we didn't go trick or treating.

Isaac:
  • Football ended with a game in the Dakota Dome. He didn't even have a week off before basketball practice started. Yesterday was his first tournament.
  • Doesn't like practicing his trombone.
  • likes to watch football with dad
Josie:
  • Enjoyed her first hockey game. She claimed our friends' popcorn as her own.
  • Her vocabulary is growing every day and she is very independent
  • Does not like to sleep in her own bed at night
