I can't believe it's only the last day of May because it feels like I have been out of school forever. On the same note, when people try to make 4th of July plans with me I refuse to talk about it because that's in the middle of summer.
This past weekend we went to the Kees's hunting cabin near DeSmet. Saturday was a real bummer because it felt like winter. It was cold, dreary and misting. Did I mention windy? We definitely did not pack enough warm clothes. Sunday turned out to be sunny and fairly warm. Of course, it was windy but we were pretty sheltered near the lake where we were fishing. I use the term "we" loosely. Once I realized the fish were biting instantly, I decided to fish for a little bit. Yes, I had someone bait my hook and cast the line. Steve took the fish off... I repeated this 3 times. It's my version of fishing anyway! I did have to pick about 20 ticks off of Bo
Skyler left for boys' state on Monday. I think he's having fun. He doesn't text me, but he does give Steve a little information. He texted me tonight asking what we were doing Friday night. ( In other words, when he gets home, what does he have to look forward to) I told him Isaac has a baseball game. I don't think that's what he was looking for.
Isaac has been getting up bright and early every morning. The MS/HS student athletes are required to attend a workout every morning for an hour (four days a week). They have a 7am start or an 8 am start. They do weight lifting and sprints. I'm sure there is more but that's all he has shared with me. I can't wait for Skyler to get home so I don't have to get up so early. This week I dropped him off by 7... go home... get Josie up after Steve leaves for work.... go pick up Isaac... bring him home... than head back to Sioux Falls to work out myself. Today I made 5 trips to Sioux Falls. Not ideal. Josie is not always thrilled either because she thinks every day is Mommy and Josie day and when I leave for a bit, I'm ruining her day!
The weather has been really cool this week and not pool weather. I've taken advantage of this to clean and completely reorganize my basement. I emptied out all the closets and went through all the totes... rearranged furniture, carpet cleaned. It's been an all week process. Next week is looking nice and warm however, so I need to get it finished! Wild Water West during the day and Bible school at night. The week will go fast I'm sure.
This weekend we have a block party... with inflatables and porta potties. Apparently we invited all of Harrisburg or something. : ) It should be fun. Hope everyone else has a great weekend!

Summertime
Today is the last day of school for the boys. I enjoyed the one on one time with Josie but it's not as easy to get away by myself without a brother to watch her. She likes to play and interact with our dogs so they have been sort of tortured the last couple of days. She is always in their faces and dancing with them, rolling around, picking them up. Finally last night I heard her say.... Mickey is so cold... he's shivering. As soon as my brain processed the information I looked at Mickey and he was having a seizure. Possibly stress induced! The dogs had a break from her today. The neighbor girl came over and played for four hours while I worked on Vacation Bible School. They were desperately begging for a craft leader in church and the boys were pointing fingers at me... so I'm looking for crafts that a 1st grader as well as a 6th grader would enjoy and can be completed in 25 minutes of time.
This weekend we are heading to DeSmet to stay with friends at their cabin. Should be fun to have a couple days away. I'm not sure if Skyler has to work or not. Enjoy the recital photos because Josie said she's not dancing again if she has to get her hair done. Lol!

Request for Revival
I haven't posted since October of 2010. I would say a few things have happened since then. : ) Simon Ross Welch was born--Skyler , Isaac and Josie's very first cousin. That's the biggest highlight of 2011. Moving on to 2012. This year has already had it's share of events... good and bad... but I hope to start this blog anew. Thanks to Betty Crabtree for the request for a blog revival. At least one person missed me. : )
We are as busy as ever in our household. Josie is sweet and sassy. She loves to play with our neighbor girl Brinly. I'm forever searching for clothes that get forgotten at the neighbor's house because they were playing dress up. They also like to pack as many bags as they can find/ carry and stuff them full of clothes, jewelry, toys, etc and take them on vacation or something. We are always missing items at the most inopportune times. She's almost finished with her first year of preschool and her second year of dance. She is taking a hip hop/ ballet combo class. She makes me laugh when she does the hip hop dancing. She gets so into it. I guess hip hop dancing isn't the only time she makes me laugh. She's had a couple of good ones this week. She was playing in the bathtub and quoting The Office. On the show, one of the characters said to another person, "I'm going to count to 10 and if you're not out of my office, I'm docking your paycheck $100) So.. later that night I hear Josie say, "1,2,3,4. If you're not out of my closet, I'm taking your money." This was probably the same night that I was hot and sweaty, in my workout clothes, and getting after her for something when she says, "Mommy you are so pretty." Lol. How do they learn to say things like that? She reminds me so much of Skyler at this age. She is his spitting image only with long hair. She's precocious, but so self-conscious.
I feel lately like I can brag so much about my kids! Isaac represented SFC's middle school in Brookings for the state geography bee. He did really well. He's also in track right now. He does shot put. At his track meet yesterday, SFC was allowed to enter two 4X100 teams. So... all the shot putters decided they were going to do a relay. They tried to use a banana as a baton and the officials wouldn't let them. Regardless, they ended up getting 4th place, which surprised me! The nights he doesn't have track, he has baseball practice. He took a year off but wanted to play this year for SFC. Lately he and his friends have been playing a game in the neighborhood of one of his friends. Basically they have two teams and a map of the area so they don't visit the same houses. It's kind of an ongoing game. One team started with a nickel and the other team a dime. They go door to door to trade for something "better". I know they traded a nickel for a quarter, then for a book about Roosevelt, then traded the book for a picture frame from Ecuador. Anyway eventually they ended up with this HUGE painting of two cheetahs. It is quite humorous. However, this family lives in an extremely nice neighborhood where there aren't a lot of children, so the mom put the kibosh on it because she was getting embarrassed.
Skyler has been really busy lately. Too busy to bug us about visiting colleges. He started a new job at Minnehaha Country Club. I'm 90 percent sure that's the correct CC. Last week he went to prom and this weekend he has a pretty big role in the musical Fiddler on the Roof. Every night this week it has been the same question. He begs us to let him sleep in or skip school so he can "save" his voice. We haven't fallen for it yet, and keep teasing him that he should only text us because he needs to save his voice. We are however, looking forward to seeing the musical and truly hope his voice holds out!
I guess you could say I had a small role in the musical by helping paint the sets. It ended up being a great deal in the long run because I tried to sign up to do my mandatory parent work time at SFC and they told me I was marked as completed already. Yay! The school year is winding down quickly with 13 days left. This year went so fast. I think the mild winter helped. I can't wait to sit at Wild Water West and relax (after my daily Kosama work out : -)) Of course, I need to try to fix the large area in our lawn that died and other various projects like cleaning out our storage room so Steve has room for his brewing equipment. If you ever stop by and you can't find him... look in the neighbor's garage. He and the neighbor do two things: run and brew beer...ok, three... they drink it too, which is why they need to run and the cycle continues. His job at Premier Bankcard continues to be a good career move. I don't like the weeks that he is on call, especially when there are problems, but he is so much happier now. If Daddy ain't happy then nobody's happy, right? Ok.... everyone in my house knows that is false.

October???
The first quarter of school is over in a couple of weeks. Time goes by so quickly. Isaac has one game left of football and Halloween is right around the corner. It's time for a family update!
This time... oldest to youngest! Angie. Me. School is going well. I have almost a full schedule and I am missing my slack first year's schedule when half the students went to the new elementary that opened. Harrisburg's School District is growing that fast! Next fall a new elementary will open but probably won't affect my school that much. I spent the Sundays in September running in races. I did my first half marathon in Sioux Falls, a 5k in Vermillion and a 10K in Omaha. Of course, Steve and I did our training together. We did the half marathon together and last weekend he did some sort of torturous (in my opinion) 10K in Newton Hills. I passed on the chance to do a trail run. No thank you! Steve spent a week in Sacramento for work. One weekend he dragged the family to a hunting cabin in DeSmet and forced me to shoot clay pigeons until I hit one. (Just kidding, we went willingly). He went to Lincoln and tailgated in style with my brother for the SDSU/Nebraska game. Steve's Wednesday night golf league wrapped up last week. Skyler was on the golf team but that started and was over within a few weeks it seems like. Only the top golfers go to the meets and he isn't quite up there with the country club kids. LOL. He has been spending a lot of time playing tennis with his friends after school. He took on Steve and Skyler dominated! Steve, I think, was surprised and wants a rematch. Skyler ly realwould like to play Uncle Joel for a challenge. Skyler has a lot of free time since his job ended at Sunshine. Hyvee bought the Sunshine store and wouldn't rehire anyone under 16. I'm not sure if he has committed to debate this year or not but he did try out for honor's choir on a whim and made it! This inspired Isaac to try out for something similar. He will be making an audition cd soon. I was quite surprised but impressed by Ike's choice. Keep you posted on the results for that! His football season is coming to an end with his final game at the Dome in Vermillion. It's so much fun to watch them play there. Bug Free and controlled weather isn't so bad either! His team only won one game this year but he still had fun. He played center and did a great job. I think basketball practice will be starting very soon. He also has a bug collection due very soon. I recall crawling around outside with a flashlight the night before Skyler's was due. I pulled an "A" on that assignment. I was very clear to Isaac that I was not doing his bug collection. However, I would say that a majority of the bugs gathered so far were caught by me. You would think since he is a boy he wouldn't mind touching bugs but apparently he's like Josie. Even Josie is starting to get over her bug phobia. She will at least look at one without screaming now. She's getting so grown up. No more diapers either! She slept with the same squishy baby doll for two years and then one night she said "no more baby". Apparently it was too babyish. It was quite upsetting to me. She still has a blanket and sleeps with a unicorn instead. She's so cute riding her bike around the neighborhood with her "real" baby doll. She has a basket hanging on the front of her bike with a bell and streamers on the handle. On the back is a baby seat for her doll. She has quite the set up! Josie has also started dance at Balleraena Dance Studio. She is in a combo class with ballet and tap. It is so adorable seeing all the little girls in their tutus. She just loves it!

first day of school

Here are some pictures of our summertime fun. We started school today. Skyler is a sophomore and driving he and his brother to school in his "new" car. He is on the golf team. He has about two more weeks of working at Sunshine before he loses his job because Sunshine was bought out. Isaac started middle school. I didn't ask how opening his locker went today! His first football game of the season was last night. They didn't win but it was still fun to watch. He is the starting center. Josie turned 3 yesterday. We had a little birthday party with some close friends on Sunday evening. Tonight we went to Sesame Street Live with Max and Melissa. We had front and center seats. Pretty exciting. ha ha I'm exhausted from my first day of school. No more spur of the moment naps. I have a pretty full schedule. I have 23 classes. I think we have room for 24 sections at our school. We just grow so quickly. When I was hired two years ago another elementary school had just been built and they split our school in half. Steve is busy with work and golf on Wednesday nights. We continue to train for our half marathon on September 12th. I am not really looking forward to it. I like to run five miles and that's about it. After that, it's just painful! Steve has to travel to Sacramento to work in September. That's all for now.... no proof reading this and I'm tired so any mistakes I will blame on exhaustion! Good night everyone!
